Anna Popova

Anna Yu. Popova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation; Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor), Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation; Head of the Department of Organization of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Russian Ministry of Health; Editor-in-Chief of the monthly peer-reviewed scientific and practical journal Public Health and Life Environment – PH&LE, Moscow, Russian Federation.

In 1984, Anna Yu. Popova, born in 1960, graduated with honors from the Rostov Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical Institute, Russia, where she specialized in Hygiene, Sanitation and Epidemiology. In 1997, she defended her Candidate of Medical of Sciences thesis and in 2000 – her doctoral thesis. She started her teaching career in 1997; since 2011 she has been teaching at the department of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Russian Ministry of Health. In 2011, she was appointed Deputy Head of Rospotrebnadzor. Since 2014, he has been in charge of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor).

Since 2016, she has been working as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Public Health and Life Environment – PH&LE, maintaining its traditions and scientific value.

Professor Popova is a member of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

Dr. Popova is a member of the editorial board in the Russian journals Voprosy Pitaniya [Problems of Nutrition] (Scopus), Gigiena i Sanitariya [Hygiene and Sanitation] (Scopus), Meditsina Truda i Promyshlennaya Ekologiya [Occupational Medicine and Industrial Ecology] (Scopus); she is also a member of the editorial council in the Russian journals Analiz Riska Zdorov’yu [Health Risk Analysis] (Scopus), Profilakticheskaya i Klinicheskaya Meditsina [Preventive and Clinical Medicine].

Anna Popova maintains high standards and principles of ethical behavior for journal editors, authors and reviewers, and is guided by the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The research portfolio of Anna Popova covers such fields of medicine and health care as disease incidence (including COVID-19), legal framework and organization of activities of Rospotrebnadzor bodies and institutions (epidemiological surveillance, epidemic prevention and control measures); issues of ensuring biological safety of the population, etc.

Dr. Popova is the author and co-author of more than 392 scientific papers, two monographs, over fifty regulations and guidelines, her h-index equaling 28. She was the dissertation supervisor and advisor for two doctors and six candidates of sciences.
